Hypothetical Stellar Objects are stellar bodies that were theorized to have either existed or were disproven by more reliable models or from a lack of evidence. These, just like hypothetical planets and moons, were used to explain phenomena from across the Solar System that hasn't been explained.
List[]
Here is a list of the known hypothetical (and disproven) stellar bodies
Name of Hypothetical Stellar Object | Distance from Sun | Diameter | Reason Hypothesized | Disproven? |
---|---|---|---|---|
Nemesis | 1.55 trillion km | 300,000 | To explain a perceived cycle of mass extinctions in the geological record, which seem to occur more often at intervals of 26 million years.[1] | Yes |
Coatlicue | 16.308 - 32.616 Light years | ??? | Thought to be the star that gave raise to the Sun, and among many other stars.[2] | No |
